I love blogging. Even though it is a lot of work I think I get just as excited about it as my clients do seeing their sneak peek for the first time! I absolutely love the feel of this session...very fall like with a very cozy, cottage feel at the same time. MK and Derek chose a place that had meaning for them. The cottage is a place MK has been going to since she was a week old and they were engaged there as well. We asked them their engagement story and thought we would share it with you.Derek went to her parents first for their permission/approval, which of course was given with tears from her mom. Derek then went to his parents to let them know what he was planning to do, which again was openly welcomed. They planned to go up to her families cottage for a weekend. On the weekend planned MK had a baby shower come up on the Saturday afternoon. She wasn't sure if he still wanted to get up there, even if it was just for the night. He played it casual and said, "We might as well, its not as far as it would be to go way up north to his cottage." After the baby shower Derek and MK headed up to the cottage. While she was busy puttering around, getting the chairs out on the deck, unpacking the cooler Derek was busy putting her early birthday gift in his pocket. Derek suggested they grab some drinks and head outside. Originally he planned to propose on the beach but then decided he didn't want all those spectators and the back yard was the perfect spot. Typically they are sitting on the front porch type of people, but Derek led her to the back yard to this old rickety picnic table they have. Just before they headed outside Derek was looking at a picture that happened to be hanging on the wall of MK and her Oma on that picnic table when she was just a little girl. He told her he had an early birthday gift for her, which is an inside joke because she always wants to make him wait till the day, but somehow he always gets her gifts early. This time it was only because her parents were going away on vacation and he wanted to do it while they were still around. He read her a little something that he prepared that week and basically said, "I know you're the one for me and I can't wait any longer." MK of course said "Yes!"MK and Derek were a lot of fun to photograph. They have a really beautiful connection and that always makes for great engagement photos. We want to congratulate them on their engagement and we look so forward to their summer wedding in 2012.The spot where they were engaged!
